About Us
This is where tomorrow's skilled professionals learn
BHH qualifies specialists who are able to master challenging operational problems on the basis of vocational and academic competencies.
Students should develop into socially responsible personalities who, through integrative thinking, are able to solve complex practical problems in a structured way and communicate their results, while also possessing social and cultural orientation and shaping skills.
The innovative model of study-integrated training links academic and vocational education. Both spheres are equally important. BHH enables students to plan and realise their educational pathway on the basis of experience.
Integrative, innovative, cooperative
The study-integrated training model does not seek to replace existing links between academic and vocational education, but rather to enrich them with an additional option. The defining features of BHH are:
- The opportunity to obtain two professionally qualifying qualifications
- An innovative teaching and support concept that systematically combines theory and practice, thereby ensuring that individual educational goals can be achieved
- Advisory and coaching services for learners to strengthen their educational pathway decisions
- Close, contractually regulated cooperation between the learning locations of company, vocational school and university
- Consistent integration of academic and vocational education within a single integrated study model
- Anchoring the educational programme in Hamburg's higher education and economic landscape, and thereby fostering a partnership-based cooperation between science and operational practice
- Curricular alignment and interlinking of company-based, vocational school and university education phases
These defining features aim to enable young people to participate actively in a constantly changing professional, working and personal environment. Those who wish to continue their academic pathway are able to pursue a master's degree, and a vocational advanced training pathway is equally possible.
Family in higher education
BHH is a member of the Familie in der Hochschule e.V. association.
Berufliche Hochschule Hamburg promotes equal opportunities and family-friendliness through targeted measures for students and staff. With services such as the educational pathway coaching for students and flexible working models for staff, it supports a sustainable balance between work, study and family life. Our commitment to shaping a family-friendly university culture is anchored in our constitution.
Goals
- Continued awareness-raising among all BHH staff to reduce structural and individual disadvantages faced by people with family responsibilities.
- Further development of the existing flexibility of working time and location for all BHH staff, with a view to improving the balance between work and family life.
- Initiation of cooperation with stakeholders of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on family-friendliness topics.
Target and Performance Agreement with the Authority for Schools and Vocational Training (BSB)
In accordance with Section 2 (3) of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG), a Target and Performance Agreement is concluded between BHH and the BSB. It sets out the binding framework within which the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, represented by the BSB, exercises its responsibilities as funding authority and documents the scope of BHH's tasks while observing the independence guaranteed to universities under Article 5 (3) of the German Basic Law.
